Does SET autocommit=0 perform table locks? (3 replies)

Hello,

As in the title. Does

SET autocommit=0;

perform table locks for other threads?

I've read that

START TRANSACTION;

does table locks and it's very similar to autocommit=0. But I haven't found any examples that autocommit=0 causes locks. How is it?
